RE: Keeping Dog cool in car

But, we are moving from CA to VA and me and the boys and dog are going on an adventure for 2-3 weeks! Stopping and seeing the sites etc. I am going as far north as I can for most of the trip.
This may be a stupid question, but why not have the dog travel with DH when he makes the trip from CA to VA? Much easier (overall) for everyone involved. You'll already have your hands full with 2 small children and adding the special requirements of a brachycephalic (snub-nosed) dog in the heat of summer will really limit what you can see/do during the trip.
Well the short answer is that DH likes the dog but is not a fan of taking care of the dog LOL I will broach the subject with him and see what he says. He may just keel over and die. LOL

RE: Keeping Dog cool in car

We have a camper shell on the back of our truck so I don't think leaving him in there is any better then the car.

RE: Keeping Dog cool in car

I would love to hear any other ideas. He is a boston Terrier and gets hot pretty quick.
Buy a slide in camper or 5'er with air conditioning and a built in generator; or leave the dog at behind.
Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!:)
Can't leave him behind on this trip we are moving. Which is why we are doing a cross country trip in August! LOL

RE: Keeping Dog cool in car

I am thinking it will have to be for bathroom breaks only. We travel with him a lot but usually there is two adults(DH is usually with us) and we tend to travel more when the weather is cooler. But, we are moving from CA to VA and me and the boys and dog are going on an adventure for 2-3 weeks! Stopping and seeing the sites etc. I am going as far north as I can for most of the trip.

Keeping Dog cool in car

We are traveling cross country. Me, my 2 sons(ages 5 and 7) and our dog.
My dilemma is when we have to stop along our route to use the bathroom or if we want to grab a quick bite to eat at a fast food place. What to do with the dog. The dog can not come in the bathroom with us. I am not comfortable sending in the kids by themselves at rest stops etc.
My dog does not get along well with other dogs so tying him up outside the restrooms is not a good idea.
So that leaves me having to leave him in the truck. Which in certain places is going to be way to hot for even a quick trip to the restroom. I do have a battery operated fan. I do have one of those cool pads that you put in water and then it is dry and stays cool. I am not sure if the fan on and the cool pad are enough.
I would love to hear any other ideas. He is a boston Terrier and gets hot pretty quick.
I have also looked at the cool box personal air conditioner. But not sure if that would work in the truck or not.

Thanks!

RE: Using the cab over bunk for rabbits and guinea pigs

I have to say that guinea pigs travel well. I traveled from VA to CA with a guinea pig(only one) and we stayed in cabins or tent camped and it worked out great. I got a small cage and it was my arm rest between me and my mom. I then loaded her big cage in the back of the truck and when we set up camp I would put her in her big cage.
I like the idea of under the dinnette. Or maybe some sort of bungee cord type of thing above maybe a piece of wood across and bungee them in place so you don't have flying pigs and rabbits!

RE: Barking and Growling in Campsite

Thanks for the tips.. My dog only barks when other dogs walk by. He does not mind people, kids, noisy bikes etc. Just dogs!
On the next camping trip I think the squirt bottle(can't use a gun because we tell the kids they can't squirt the dog with them) and some treats and working on his barking will be #1 on my list!

RE: What you need to get started

Thanks!
WE have been tent camping for years so we have all of the camping stuff for that. That will be put into a TT(pots, pans, dishes etc)
We do have a truck that came with the towing package from the factory.

What you need to get started

So I have been reading and I have been learning.
So I know that I need for a TT or I think I need LOL
Brake controller
Hitch
Sway control
I am trying to come up with some sort of budget on these "extras" that I never thought about before LOL
Also I have seen on here about the sleep number beds for the RV. Can you use one from your home? We have one and we are maybe on planning on living in a TT for 3-6 months so I am thinking I can just put in the one we already own.
Thanks!

RE: suggestions on budget minded trailer under 25 ft used

WE are in the market for the exact same thing! Although there are 4 of us and we plan on living in it 3-6 monhs and there are quite a few out here. Try looking on RV trader online. Google RV dealerships in your area and look on craigslist. I have been finding a decent amoung in the under 10k range that 2000-2003 model years for the most part!

RE: Paying bills.

I know that it does but it is more secure. I use wifi in my own house and we have control over how much security is used on it. Using a public wifi you have no control over the security of it!
You don't have to buy into it, but I will not be crying in my cheerios because my bank and CC info was stolen because I used a public wifi!

RE: Paying bills.

One warning about doing banking on WiFi.. it is not safe. I would never do any type of banking online or accessing any credit card accounts, purchasing etc on a Wifi. Which means using the RV park, the coffee shop etc is not safe!
The best way to do it is to use an aircard. About $60 per month and you get good coverage and it is safe and secure! We are looking into this option right now and that seems to be the going rate. Radio shack has a deal right now free air card(costs about $200) if you sign a two year agreement.
And you base this alarming information on what???:R
:R
I would not access any of my bank accounts on a public Wifi service. Period.
My basis is that people can and will get your information.
I base this "alarming" information on some basic research on the internet and my wonderful DH whom is a computer forensic investigator. But what does he know:R

RE: What hooked you on camping...and your fondest memory?

I have been camping since before I can remember. It has always been apart of me. Then Girl Scouts really sealed the deal on camping and enjoying and respecting the outdoors!
